Youth Update 8/13/08

"I am excited to have an opportunity to change the landscape of American politics...for the rest of my life I will be able to take pride in the fact that I helped make history."

-Jake Loukas, Windham

With 82 days to go until this election, things are heating up big-time! This is our opportunity to ask, "What have I done to impact this election today?" Conveniently, we have opportunities to help you do your part!  Already in August, young callers in the Second District alone have made over 4,100 phone calls to talk about why this election is critical.  We are continuing with this momentum and running canvasses and phone banks EVERY DAY from now until November 4.

Announcing our new, kick"ass" partnership: the Campus Coalition for Change! We are working with the College Dems, Students for Obama, Obama's Maine Campaign for Change and the Victory 2008 Coordinated Campaign on college campuses across the state to have a streamlined but unstoppable presence.  If you want to be part of the leadership team on your campus, our application is HERE. Also, join our new Facebook Group!

CD 1 Youth Update 7/22/08

Wow.

We've been able to do some amazing things in July! We marched in 38 parades across every county in the state to celebrate the 4th of July (and to show everyone across Maine how sizeable and how motivated our volunteer corps is this year!).  More than FIFTY young volunteers in the 1st Congressional District alone have made more than 5,000 phone calls this month.  We've generated so much buzz that Governor Howard Dean, Chair of the Democratic Party, made stops in Portland and Waterville to talk to folks about activism and voter registration.

My guess is that by now, you guys have a good idea of what I'm going to say next :

WE STILL NEED MORE HELP TO MAKE MAINE BLUE IN 2008!

Here's what you can do...

1.  Join your local Facebook Group.  We have one Facebook Group for every office in the state; just search for XXXX Town (ME) Young Dems.  If you don't see one in your town, email us and we'll create one!

2.  Come in for our Young Calling Nights!

   a.  Portland: Every Tuesday from 6-8pm at 305 Commercial St.

   b.  Augusta: Every Monday from 4-6pm at 16 Winthrop St.

   c.   Rockland: Every other Wednesday from 6-8pm at 66 Maverick St.

   d.  Damariscotta: Every other Thursday from 4-6 at 466 Main St.

   e.  Biddeford: Every Wednesday from 4-6 at 316 Main St.

4.  Be a Campus Organizer this Fall Semester! We need organizers for each High School and College campus in the state! Check out our application here for more info.  You'll be able to attend a grassroots organizing training session September 12-14th where you can meet other progressive young leaders from across the state.

Also, as a heads up, we have an event on August 10 called "Vote '08: Let's Wake It Up!" We'll have live bands, food, candidates, and prizes all coming together for a major voter awareness rally!  It's hosted by the Seacoast Dems and organized by young leaders and community activists In York.

Thanks again for all of the energy and hard work you've brought to this campaign. Spread the word to your friends and relatives so we can continue to boost our candidates all across Maine-and bring home victory on November 4th!
