Westbrook, MAINE - Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett issued the following statement on the 8th Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act becoming law:
“The Affordable Care Act made it illegal for insurance companies to deny coverage because of a pre-existing condition, made it easier for Mainers to gain access to health coverage and preventive care, and helped provide entrepreneurs the flexibility to pursue their dreams without losing their health coverage.
“But Congressman Poliquin, Speaker Ryan, and President Trump have made it their mission to turn back the progress we’ve made and strip tens of thousands of Mainers of lifesaving health insurance. In fact, the GOP’s ACA repeal bill that Bruce Poliquin supported would have raised insurance premiums for all Mainers and gutted Medicaid, a program that thousands of Mainers rely on for health care coverage.
“Today, the Maine Democratic Party renews its commitment to ensuring that every Mainer has access to affordable healthcare by building on the successes of the ACA - and we pledge to continue to fight Bruce Poliquin’s ideologically-driven attempts to take away health care from Mainers.”
