Maine Democratic Party Chair Bev Uhlanhake released the following statement after Senate Republicans voted against the Right to Contraception Act amid Trump’s attacks on contraception access across the country:

“Mainers' right to contraception shouldn’t be up for debate, but yesterday, Republicans in Congress chose to continue to support Donald Trump’s cruel crusade against reproductive freedom.

“Mainers have made it clear that we expect our elected leaders to stand up for our reproductive rights – but Trump and MAGA Republicans have demonstrated that they were never going to stop at Roe v. Wade and that they will do whatever it takes to rip away reproductive healthcare access and bodily autonomy in all 50 states, including Maine. Even as we’ve seen the horrifying results of extreme and cruel abortion bans across the country, Trump backed a national ban as President and says he is exploring policies to block access to contraception nationwide.

“Mainers know that another Trump presidency will only mean more bans and more suffering. That’s why they’ll reelect President Biden and Vice President Harris in November so that they can continue to fight to protect and restore reproductive freedom.”
