After Susan Collins’ Deciding Vote to Allow Trump to Raid Military Project Funding for Border Wall, Trump “Considering Plan to Divert Billions”
Pentagon has warned of “dire outcomes” if military projects aren’t complete
Just one week after Senator Susan Collins cast the deciding vote to allow President Trump to continue raiding funds for military projects in states across the country -- the exact opposite of what she had pledged to do – President Trump is again weighing another round of deferments. This comes as the Pentagon warned of the “dire outcomes” as a result of Trump raiding the funding of military projects to fund his border wall. These warnings include:
- “[P]otentially hazardous living conditions for troops and their families”
- “[U]nsafe schools that would impede learning”
- “[L]ives would be put at risk if buildings don’t meet the military’s standards for fire safety or management of explosives”
“It was disappointing when Senator Collins did not do what she said and instead voted to allow the president to keep raiding these funds – now her deciding vote is putting more projects at risk,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “It’s unacceptable, and she should explain why she choose to let the president continue with a dangerous policy rather than stand up to the White House.”
