Westbrook, MAINE – In an editorial today, the Bangor Daily News pointed out the sad truth about Maine’s Republican primary for governor:there is no home for a moderate in this race to the extreme right.

The editorial board called the Republicans a “disappointing slate of candidates”, writing that “all four candidates are racing to the right, portraying themselves as the best person to replace the divisive governor” and that “as a result, there are no good choices for reasonable, moderate Republican voters in the June 12 primary.”

Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett released the following statement:

“The Bangor Daily News got it right when they called the Republican slate of candidates disappointing – and that’s because Moody, Mayhew, Mason, and Fredette are too preoccupied with fighting to out-LePage one another than they are with trying to fix the serious problems he created. It’s sad that Maine’s Republican primary for governor, and the Maine GOP as a whole, has become this extreme and so deeply out-of-step with Maine people.”
