Senator Susan Collins just voted to confirm two new Trump judicial nominees with extensive anti-reproductive rights records to lifetime seats on the federal bench. Stephen McGlynn and David Dugan were confirmed today as part of a push from Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republican caucus to confirm 8 new Trump judges this week instead of passing a coronavirus relief bill.
The nominees Senator Collins voted to confirm today add to the growing list of dozens of anti-choice judges she has voted to confirm since Trump took office. Dugan has written that the landmark Roe v. Wade decision was “sorely misplaced” and is the co-founder of an organization with the stated goal of “ending abortion in Illinois by 2020.” McGlynn was an active member of the anti-reproductive rights group Illinois Federation for Right to Life and has previously been endorsed by a number of anti-abortion organizations.
“Senator Collins promised Maine voters that she would protect our reproductive rights, but she has betrayed that promise dozens of times by voting to install judges who will threaten our right to choose for decades to come,” said Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Lisa Roberts. “Her votes today to confirm two judges who not only oppose the right to choose, but have actively campaigned against our reproductive freedoms, shows exactly why Maine people no longer trust her to fight for us.”
