Health Care Still At Risk For Nearly 600,000 Mainers Due To Collins-Backed Tax Bill

Tonight, a federal appeals court ruling on a Republican lawsuit designed to destroy the Affordable Care Act continued to put coverage protections in jeopardy for the nearly 600,000 Mainers who have a preexisting condition. The 5th Circuit ruling threatens all of the benefits guaranteed by the ACA, including maternity care coverage and the ability for children to stay on their parents insurance up to age 26.

The tax law that Senator Collins voted for sabotaged the ACA and laid the foundation for the GOP-backed lawsuit to move forward. 

“Senator Collins put our health care in jeopardy with her vote for the tax bill,” said Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Lisa Roberts. “As Republicans try to tear down the health care law and protections for pre-existing conditions, Maine Democrats are focused on electing a new Senator in 2020 who will fight for affordable health care for every Mainer.”
