Following the bipartisan passage of both emergency measures to respond to COVID-19 and a supplemental spending package, Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra issued the following statement:
“Working across the aisle to protect the most vulnerable Mainers is the right approach to addressing this rapidly changing public health crisis. Protecting the health and safety of Mainers above all else is critical during this uncertain time.
“Between the emergency measures and the supplemental budget package passed by the Legislature, the State will be able to provide much-needed support to Maine workers, boost health care personnel to respond to the pandemic as well as help health care providers who care for high-risk Mainers, and give State and local officials more flexibility to respond to and mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in Maine, among many other measures.
“I want to give a special thanks to Governor Janet Mills, Senate President Troy Jackson, and Speaker of the House Sara Gideon for their leadership in these trying times. We put our trust in our leaders to do the right thing not just when times are good, but when times are tough, and I’m proud to have them at the helm to steer us through this crisis.
“We don’t know what the future holds, but I’m encouraged to know that our leaders are working together to do everything in their power to keep us safe.”
