Today the State Committee of the Maine Democratic Party officially voted to endorse Governor Janet Mills’ candidacy for a second term as Maine’s governor.
Following the endorsement vote, Maine Democratic Party Chair, Drew Gattine released the following statement:
“The Maine Democratic Party is proud to endorse Governor Janet Mills’ historic campaign for a second term as Maine’s first female Governor and we stand ready to fight alongside her this November to make sure Democrats are elected up and down the ticket.
“Since taking office in 2019, Governor Mills has tackled some of the biggest challenges facing our state and delivered progress that Maine people deserve. She expanded health care access to 90,000 additional Mainers, made significant progress to prepare our state for the coming climate crisis, and worked with Democrats in the legislature to invest in our public schools, rebuild aging roads and bridges, and boost our local economy. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, she led a highly effective public health-centered response. The results speak for themselves. Maine continues to have one of the highest vaccination rates and lowest death rates in the nation. And, as she said in her announcement video, there is so much more progress yet to come.
“On the ballot this November, Governor Mills will represent progress—both protecting the progress that we have made, and ensuring the progress yet to come. Her opponent, former Governor Paul LePage, wants to dismantle that progress and return Maine to a time when the biggest problems facing our people remained unsolved. We can’t ever let Paul LePage drag us backward once again.”
