Yesterday, the Biden-Harris Administration opened a special enrollment period on Healthcare.gov until May 15 to provide all Americans an opportunity to sign up for health insurance coverage amid the ongoing pandemic. In response, Maine Democratic Party Chair Drew Gattine released the following statement:
“From now until May 15, Mainers can sign up for a health care plan on Healthcare.gov in a special enrollment period thanks to the Biden-Harris Administration. It’s important that people take advantage of this opportunity to get covered, and there’s no question the Affordable Care Act has saved lives, especially amid the ongoing pandemic. Democrats believe health care is a right and we are doing everything in our power to make sure everyone can get quality, affordable health care.
“70,000 people gained the health care they deserved because Governor Mills expanded MaineCare on the first day of her administration. Two years ago, legislative leaders enshrined some of the patient protections from the Affordable Care Act into state law, including making sure Mainers with a pre-existing condition cannot be denied coverage. Now, President Jackson and Speaker Fecteau are hard at work passing the COVID-19 Patient Bill of Rights to ensure Mainers cannot be denied the health care they need to protect themselves from the virus. We’re fortunate to have compassionate leaders, from Augusta to Washington, who are doing everything they can to make sure everyone has the health care they need as we weather the ongoing pandemic.”
Mainers who need affordable, high-quality health coverage are encouraged to visit coverME.gov to learn about coverage options and find local assistance.
