Today, as the United States Supreme Court hears a case brought by the Trump administration seeking to overturn the Affordable Care Act, Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra released the following statement:
“It’s unconscionable that in the middle of a pandemic that has killed nearly 240,000 Americans, and at a time when COVID-19 is spreading at an alarming rate in Maine and across the country, the Trump administration is still trying to take away our health care as their final act. If Trump’s lawsuit before the Supreme Court today is successful, more than 100,000 Mainers could lose their health coverage, premiums and prescription drug prices will skyrocket, and protections for millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions will disappear.
“Because of MaineCare expansion made possible by the Affordable Care Act, nearly 65,000 Mainers who couldn’t previously afford health coverage finally got the care they deserved. There’s no mistaking it––the Affordable Care Act has saved lives and continues to save lives, and overturning it now will have devastating consequences for Maine families.”
