Maine Democrats Expand Abortion Access, Continue Health Care Achievements
As Republicans continually vote to threaten reproductive rights, Maine Democrats leading the charge to expand access

Yesterday, Gov. Janet Mills signed LD 1261, “An Act To Authorize Certain Health Care Professionals To Perform Abortions,” a bill offered by Gov. Mills and introduced by Speaker Sara Gideon to improve access to reproductive health care for Mainers by allowing physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses to perform abortions in addition to physicians. This comes as Maine Democrats have prioritized health care this legislative session

While Maine Democrats focus on expanding access to reproductive health care, Republicans have been confirming anti-choice judges and threatening Roe v. Wade.

Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra issued the following statement:

“Maine Democrats continue to enact legislation that puts the wellbeing of Mainers first. I commend Gov. Janet Mills and Speaker Sara Gideon for passing legislation that expands access to reproductive health. While Republicans in Washington threaten Mainers’ right to choose, Maine Democrats continue stepping up for what’s right.”
