In case you missed it, in last week’s Political Pulse newsletter, Maine Public pointed out Paul LePage’s apparent confusion over how electric vehicles (EVs) work.
“If people use their cars during the day, and you want to charge them at night,” LePage said, “how you gonna charge ’em? There’s no sun, so maybe some energy from the moon or something.”
“It’s not clear why LePage thinks Mills’ EV initiative is incompatible with her solar initiative,” Maine Public wrote in the newsletter. “The latter doesn’t mean electricity for EVs — or anything else — is only available during the day…EVs run on batteries, day or night.”
Maine Public went on to criticize LePage for taking a “puzzling tack” in his opposition to Governor Mills’ effort to expand EVs, noting that LePage had once also tried to expand production of the vehicles.
“This is just another example of how Paul LePage speaks first and thinks later, if he thinks at all,” said Misha Linnehan, spokesperson for the Maine Democratic Party. “We need a Governor who is serious about curbing Maine’s reliance on fossil fuels. That means understanding the problem and understanding how to address it. LePage has no idea about either of those things.”
