Augusta, MAINE – In letters to the editors in newspapers across the state, Mainers are speaking out against Republican U.S. Senator Susan Collins and Congressman Bruce Poliquin for their votes in favor of the GOP tax bill.
In their letters, Maine people reject the plan as 1) a massive giveaway to millionaires, billionaires, and corporations at the expense of the middle class; 2) will likely result in taxes being raised on working Maine families in the long-term; 3) will jeopardize healthcare for hundreds of thousands of Maine people by repealing the individual mandate; and 4) will add more than $1 trillion to the deficit.
Senator Collins and Congressman Poliquin decided to support the tax bill despite its well-documented harmful effects on Maine and a poll that showed a majority of Mainers (53 percent) oppose the plan.
