Augusta, Maine -- In response to Trump signing an executive order dissolving his sham voting commission, Maine Democratic Party Chair Phil Bartlett released the following statement:
"President Trump's fraudulent commission, driven by Trump's false claims and carried out with a disturbing lack of transparency and lawfulness, put our democracy at risk. The dissolution of this sham voting commission represents a victory for voters everywhere and the protection of our country's democratic process.
“We commend Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap for his tireless work to hold Trump's sham commission accountable. Through his dedication to the rule of law and to free, fair, and accessible elections, he has succeeded in protecting the American people from widespread voter suppression that Trump's sham commission would have laid the groundwork for. Democrats believe that our democracy is made stronger when more people participate, and we will always fight for the right of all Americans to access the ballot box."
