Following Kavanaugh’s anti-choice dissent, Collins’ approval is 19 points underwater

A new poll out today from Public Policy Polling shows that 55% of Mainers disapprove of Senator Susan Collins’ job performance, and found that her overall approval is even further underwater in Maine than Donald Trump’s.

This latest poll is consistent with the trend revealed by polling from this spring that found Collins’ approval had declined since last fall, while her disapproval numbers have continued to climb.

The poll also found that 59% of Maine people identify as pro choice, with only 33% identifying as pro life. After Brett Kavanaugh’s dissent in the June Medical case last week exposed the threat he poses to reproductive rights and disproved Collins’ misleading justifications for her vote to confirm him, it will be even more difficult for Collins to win support among Maine’s overwhelming majority of pro-choice voters.

“Poll after poll has confirmed what we hear from voters every day: Senator Collins has changed,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “Senator Collins has supported the president and Mitch McConnell, confirming every single Trump judicial nomination in 2017 and 2018, passing the corporate tax giveaway and undermining protections for pre-existing conditions. It’s time to elect a new Senator who puts Mainers first.”

Maine’s US Senate primary will be held on July 14th. You can read about all three Democratic candidates here.
