After Senator Susan Collins spent last week refusing to say whether she voted for Trump in Maine’s presidential primary, the Portland Press Herald reported that roughly one in five Maine Republicans left their presidential primary ballot blank. Collins seems to have no intention of coming clean with Mainers about her vote, so we still don’t know if she was one of the more than 300 Bangor residents who left their Republican ballots blank according to unofficial results from the City Clerk, or whether she voted to re-elect Donald Trump.
Because of Senator Collins’ refusal to answer the question Mainers have been asking her for weeks, it’s possible that they won’t know where she stands when their choices for US Senate are locked in on the filing deadline one week from today.
But Mainers need look no further than Senator Collins’ record to know that she stands with Trump:
1) According to CQ, Senator Collins voted with Donald Trump 94% of the time.
2) Senator Collins has been a key vote for Donald Trump on everything from the tax plan that gave corporations and the wealthy trillions in tax breaks to the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh and every one of Trump’s judicial nominees in 2017 and 2018 -- even those “deemed unqualified by the American Bar Association.” She joined with Mitch McConnell to acquit Trump in the impeachment trial, after voting 12 times against including witnesses and evidence.
3) Donald Trump has said he's 100% behind Senator Collins' reelection.
4) Staffers for the president’s reelection campaign “worked to get her on the ballot” by collecting signatures door-to-door and at Trump events.
With just one week left to the filing deadline, Mainers need to know: Did Senator Collins vote for Trump?
