Westbrook, MAINE - Today, Attorney General Janet Mills earned the endorsement of Planned Parenthood in her candidacy for Governor. Planned Parenthood called Attorney General Janet Mills a champion for women’s rights and cited her long-standing record of working to protect and expand access to reproductive health care.
Unfortunately for Mainers, the same cannot be said about Mills’ opponent, Shawn Moody. Moody has aligned himself with the extreme Maine Right to Life Committee, a group that works to advance an extreme anti-abortion agenda that includes targeting Planned Parenthood and interfering in the decisions women make about their pregnancies.
“While Janet Mills has consistently stood up for women’s reproductive rights and worked to expand access to health care, Shawn Moody has chosen to align himself with the extreme Maine Right to Life Committee,” said Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett. “Moody has proudly endorsed their legislative agenda, which includes restrictive waiting periods and other policies meant to make it more difficult to obtain a safe and legal abortion, which would be harmful to low-income and younger women, particularly in rural areas of the state.
“Not only are these positions far outside the mainstream and out of line with the majority of Maine voters, they’re just bad policies that will only end up endangering Mainers.”
