In a new op-ed, published today in the Bangor Daily News, Rockland resident Donna McNeil, blasts Paul LePage and Maine Republicans for their opposition to abortion rights, saying, “During his eight years as governor, LePage made it harder for Maine people to access reproductive care [...] If he is elected for a third term with the state Republican Party uniformly hostile to abortion rights and Roe’s protections potentially in the rearview mirror, [he] could go even further.”
McNeil, who in 1965 received an illegal abortion at the age of 17 that involved an hour-long blindfolded car ride from a restaurant parking lot to a rural farmhouse, also commended Governor Janet Mills for her “national reputation as a champion for access to reproductive health care.”
