Lewiston, MAINE – United under the theme “Victory Starts Here”, an estimated 2,000 Democrats gathered in Lewiston this weekend for the Maine Democratic Party’s 2018 Convention to ramp-up efforts to elect Democrats up and down the ballot this November. Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett released the following statement on the convention’s success:
“This weekend, Democrats from across the state came together in unprecedented numbers to show that, after far too many years of failed Republican leadership in Augusta and Washington, it’s time for change.
“Democrats will seize on the incredible energy and enthusiasm we saw during our convention and carry that momentum forward to elect a Democratic governor, a Democratic congressman for Maine’s Second District, and strong Democratic majorities in the Maine House and Senate this November.
“And with these victories, we will fight for a stronger economy with good-paying jobs in all corners in the state, for affordable, accessible health care, and for a state government that puts working Maine families first.”
The estimated 2,000 Democrats who attended the convention represent a record-breaking number for a non-presidential year. Delegates and others in attendance heard from Democratic elected officials, candidates, and activists throughout the two days, and the party conducted business, including a discussion of the party’s platform. The only unfinished business of the convention is a Democratic State Committee, which will take place tomorrow morning.
