Republicans Ready New Attack on Health Care, Collins’ Record of Raising Premiums and Repealing Pre-Existing Conditions Protections in Spotlight
According to a new report, Republicans in Washington are preparing to roll out a new attack on Americans’ health care. Here’s a reminder of Senator Susan Collins’ consistent record of increasing premiums and voting to repeal protections for pre-existing conditions:
-
2018: Collins voted for Trump’s tax scam that repealed the individual mandate, which she admitted would cause “premiums to go up” and “double-digit premium increases”. Since then, “soaring premiums send thousands in Maine over a health care cliff” and “insurance costs have grown by as much as 110 percent”.
-
2010: Collins signed on to an amicus curiae brief, arguing that the Affordable Care Act should be struck down if the individual mandate was removed. After Collins voted to repeal the individual mandate, it sparked a lawsuit to fully repeal the ACA.
-
2017: Collins wrote a bill that would have allowed insurers to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions, and one of the authors of the bill even admitted that it could lead to those with pre-existing conditions to be forced on to “more expensive policies.”
-
2011-13: Collins co-wrote two bills that would repeal health care and protections for pre-existing conditions.
-
2011-15: Collins voted to repeal health care and protections for pre-existing conditions a whopping S-E-V-E-N-!-! times.
As Collins continues going along with the special interests in Washington, and as her tax scam exclusively get negative coverage for overwhelmingly benefiting special interests while leaving Mainers behind, voters continue to turn on her - recent polling showed her approval rating at a record low that earned around the clock coverage and "her net approval has fallen by 27 points over the last two years."
