Westbrook, MAINE – In case you missed it, Maine’s Republican gubernatorial candidates continued Governor Paul LePage’s outright hostility towards Maine workers this weekend when they refused to participate in the Maine AFL-CIO’s labor debate in Winslow. Meanwhile, all seven of Maine’s Democratic candidates for governor attended the debate and answered questions from the crowd.

“Throughout his time in office, Governor LePage has worked relentlessly to weaken unions and rollback the higher wages, better benefits, and stronger protections they have fought hard to achieve together. Sadly, the Republican candidates appear ready to continue these same attacks if one of them is elected governor,” said Phil Bartlett, Chairman of the Maine Democratic Party. “But the last thing Maine needs is four more years of an outright assault on workers’ rights. I applaud our Democratic candidates for attending this debate, which proves, once again, that Democrats are the ones who will stand up to support and defend hardworking Maine people.”
