The ACC has backed some of Trump’s most dangerous environmental rollbacks--including his decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord
Yesterday, Senator Susan Collins touted the endorsement of a conservative group that claims to be an environmental organization, but operates like a shill for Trump’s attacks on our most important environmental protections.
The American Conservation Coalition has an abysmal track record on the policies that matter for Mainers’ health and environment. Last year, they praised Trump’s disastrous decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Accord, a move that was widely criticized for ceding America’s leadership in the fight against climate change and experts say threatens our national security and economy, as well as the environment.
ACC also applauded the Trump administration when they rolled back the Clean Water rule, despite the fact that the policy change was expected to expose “millions of miles of wetlands and thousands of miles of wetlands and thousands of acres of streams” to pesticide runoff and other pollutants.
Senator Collins has repeatedly tried to greenwash her poor record on the environmental issues that matter to Mainers, but after her votes to install climate deniers to lead our nation’s environmental policy, confirm dangerous anti-environment judges to lifetime seats on the federal bench, and open the Arctic Refuge to oil and gas drilling, major environmental groups that endorsed her in the past have pulled their support. Both The League of Conservation Voters Action Fund and the Natural Resources Defense Council Action Fund flipped to endorse Sara Gideon, because they know Collins can no longer be trusted to fight for our environment.
“Voters won’t be fooled by these fake environmentalists and their attempt to mislead on Senator Collins’ environmental record,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “Mainers want a Senator who’s committed to fighting the climate crisis, but Collins has made it clear that she’s on the side of Donald Trump and the corporate polluters who fund the Republican party.”
