With tonight’s votes, Collins again makes clear that she had no interest in a fair process
Tonight, Senator Collins voted twice against calling key witnesses and subpoenaing important evidence to uncover the facts in the impeachment trial. This brings Senator Collins’ total up to twelve votes against witnesses and documents, after she voted ten times last week to block witnesses and evidence.
Earlier tonight, Senator Collins made a transparent attempt to find political cover by casting a meaningless vote for witness testimony after being given a “hall pass” by McConnell because he knew he had the votes to get the outcome he wanted without her. But Senator Collins’ votes tonight make clear that she never had any intention of hearing from witnesses, evaluating important evidence, or ensuring a fair trial takes place.
“Once again, Senator Collins is proving that her loyalties lie with Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump,” said Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Lisa Roberts. “She voted twelve times with her party against witnesses and evidence, only ‘breaking’ with McConnell when it was clear that her vote would not make a difference.”
