With Supreme Court Poised to Overturn Roe v. Wade, Governor Mills Last Line of Defense for Reproductive Rights in Maine

Yesterday, the Supreme Court heard arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Observers described the Court as “seem[ing] poised” to uphold the Mississippi abortion restriction at issue in the case, with a number of conservative justices appearing open to overturn the precedent of Roe v. Wade outright.

If the Court does overturn Roe v. Wade, governors across the country will become the last line of defense against the extreme right-wing politicians trying to dismantle abortion rights. Yesterday, Governor Janet Mills reaffirmed her support for protecting reproductive health care, saying Maine people "can be damn sure that I will stand in the way of every and any attempt to undermine, roll back, or outright eliminate access to reproductive health care here in Maine."
