Today, the Maine Democratic Party is kicking off its first ever Virtual Week of Action in the wake of Donald Trump’s visit, a thinly disguised campaign rally where he exploited essential frontline workers for political gain. Volunteers will talk with more Maine voters than ever before about the need to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in November, making tens of thousands of phone calls in more than 250 volunteer shifts.

“This Week of Action will be the biggest step yet in our massive grassroots organizing plan to elect Democrats in November,” said Kathleen Marra, Chair of the Maine Democratic Party. “By talking to thousands of Maine voters about the issues that they care about, we are creating an unprecedented movement across the state to protect our majorities in the Maine Legislature, defeat Susan Collins and send a Democrat to the US Senate, and deliver all of Maine’s electoral votes to Vice President Joe Biden.”

The Week of Action comes following Trump’s visit to Maine Friday to a factory where desperately needed medical supplies are produced, forcing essential coronavirus testing swabs to be tossed and making a mockery of frontline workers. The visit capped off a difficult week in our nation’s history, where Trump advocated for violence against Americans, announced he would be directing the US military to overtake American cities, and directed that peaceful Black Lives Matter protestors be removed with tear gas to make way for a photo op.

“We must do all that we can to defeat Donald Trump, Susan Collins, and other Republicans who have been complicit in his abuses of power,” Marra continued. “That means electing Democrats up and down the ballot here in Maine. Our Virtual Week of Action is an opportunity to flex our grassroots muscles and show how we are going to triumph in November.”
