Westbrook, MAINE - In case you missed it, in the Portland Press Herald today, Shawn Moody spokeswoman Lauren LePage parroted Governor Paul LePage’s rhetoric on Medicaid expansion, demonstrating once again that Moody simply follows LePage’s lead. Interestingly, what LePage failed to mention is that Shawn Moody has said he would fight to repeal Medicaid expansion if elected - but he can’t run from his own words.
“When it comes to Medicaid expansion, all Shawn Moody has done is offer the same obstructionist rhetoric as Governor LePage,” said Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett. “The bottom-line is that when it comes to expanding Medicaid and extending health care to tens of thousands of Maine people, Moody will not only be obstructionist just like LePage, but he will fight to repeal the law—he said it himself.
“The only way to ensure that Medicaid Expansion is fully implemented is to elect Janet Mills as our Governor and Democrats to majorities in the legislature.”
Moody has said repeatedly that he opposes Medicaid expansion, despite its overwhelming benefits for both Maine people and the state’s economy, and he even went so far to say that he would fight to repeal it as governor. He has also said that health care is a privilege, not a right, and that it must be earned, and he has railed against the Affordable Care Act. In a recent policy discussion that turned to implementation of Medicaid expansion, Moody said, “We can’t let it happen.”
