Westbrook, Maine — Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett issued the following statement on Governor LePage’s last minute introduction of legislation that would rollback Maine’s successful, voter-approved minimum wage increase:
“While Democrats are working to protect the bigger paychecks that Mainers are now taking home as a result of the increase in the minimum wage, Governor LePage and Republicans are fighting to take them away.
“Maine’s increase in the minimum wage is helping people improve their lives and support their families, who then turn around and invest that money into their local economy, helping to generate economic growth.
“Given the LePage Administration’s lackluster ability to grow the economy when compared to the rest of the country, it should come as no surprise that he only tries to continue to rollback the minimum wage — and we know that when Shawn Moody says he’s going to carry on LePage’s legacy, he means he’s going to pick up where LePage leaves off to try to roll it back too.”
