Westbrook, MAINE - Democratic gubernatorial nominee Janet Mills unveiled a new economic action plan today, which included major action items that are aimed at making it easier for small businesses to grow and expand, for the state to retain and attract young people, and for rural communities to flourish again. Her opponent, Republican Shawn Moody, however, has advocated for the same, tired Republican policies that the Maine Department of Labor has said will lead to no job growth over the next 8 years.
In a statement, Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett praised Mills’ plan and criticized Moody for seeking only to maintain an economic status quo that has left rural Mainers behind.
“Janet Mills has outlined a bold economic plan that’s going to benefit Mainers in every corner of our state,” said Bartlett. “Our small businesses want partners in Augusta to help create the conditions for their businesses to grow and to attract workers, and Janet knows that a major piece of that is getting young people to move to and stay in Maine.”
“Shawn Moody continues to push the same, tired Republican policies that have left rural Mainers behind over the last eight years and that the Maine Department of Labor found will lead to almost no job growth. Making it harder for Mainers to access health care and underfunding education is no way to help Mainers get ahead, but unfortunately that’s all Moody and Republicans in the legislature have to offer.”
Mills’ proposal was endorsed by Wick Johnson, the President of Kennebec Technologies, and John Dorrer, an economist and the former Director of the Center for Workforce Research and Information at the Maine Department of Labor. Both joined Mills today as she unveiled her plan.
