Simpson will be succeeded by Lisa Roberts

Augusta, MAINE - On Saturday, Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra announced to the Democratic State Committee that Executive Director Katie Mae Simpson will be stepping back from the role. Lisa Roberts, currently serving as MDP’s Deputy Director, will begin her tenure as Executive Director immediately.

“I’d like to thank Katie Mae for everything she’s done to make this organization stronger and better-positioned for success,” said MDP Chair Marra. “I’m confident that Lisa will continue to lead the organization in a way that builds on the successful foundation MDP has built over the last few years.”

“It has truly been an honor to serve the Party in this capacity over the the last two and half years,” said Simpson. “I’m looking forward to taking a step back, spending some time with my family, and serving the Party in a different way.”

Simpson has served as Executive Director since 2016, and also served as the Director of the successful 2018 Maine Democratic Coordinated Campaign that saw Democrats take control of the Blaine House, the Maine Senate, and the Second Congressional District seat while retaining control of the Maine House of Representative and the First Congressional District seat. To aid in the transition, Simpson will remain with the organization as a Senior Advisor.

Lisa Roberts, who joined the MDP over one year ago, served as the 2018 Democratic Coordinated Campaign Field Director and has remained with the organization as its Deputy Director in the months since the conclusion of the 2018 campaign.

“It’s been an extraordinary privilege to be given the chance to continue on with the Maine Democratic Party, and as the new Executive Director, my top priority will be to make sure our successes in 2018 carry over into 2020,” said Roberts. “Already this year, we’ve been laying the groundwork to make sure we deliver all four of Maine’s electoral votes to the Democratic Presidential nominee, re-elect both of our Democratic Members of Congress, defeat Senator Susan Collins, and retain Democratic Majorities in the Maine House and Senate.”
