In keeping with tradition, Susan Collins just voted for another anti-choice judicial nomination -- the fourth such anti-choice judge in just two weeks. This follows in the footsteps of her votes for two anti-choice Supreme Court justices who are set to possibly overturn Roe v. Wade in the near future. All this, despite Collins having consistently told Mainers that she’s pro-choice and precedents such as Roe v. Wade do not face the threat of being overturned.
This most recent judicial nominee, Daniel Paul Collins, authored amicus briefs on behalf of conservative organizations in challenges to the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) contraceptive coverage requirements and inchallenges to laws requiring pregnancy clinics to make certain disclosures to patients. But Senator Collins actually has a history of fighting against contraceptive coverage, with her 2012 vote for the Blunt Amendment that would've allowed employers to refuse contraceptive coverage.
Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Mara issued the following response:
“With Senator Collins’ latest vote for another anti-choice judge, Mainers are getting more of the same: a broken promise to be a moderate voice in Washington. By appointing anti-choice judges to lifetime appointments, Senator Collins is betraying what she told us about the importance of reproductive health care in our state and we are ready to hold her accountable.”
KEY VOTE: Susan Collins Just Voted for Fourth Anti-Choice Judge in Two Weeks
Collins continues her pattern of voting for anti-choice judges despite telling Mainers she’s pro-choice
