Collins cast “deciding vote” to keep dark money in politics, now leaning on out-of state donors as support from Mainers continues to erode
Senator Susan Collins is again benefiting from another out-of-state group, this time the McConnell-backed dark money group One Nation. Even though she’s blamed “unceasing attacks by dark money groups” for her “all-time low” support among Mainers, Senator Collins actually voted to keep dark money in politics -- the spending she’s now benefiting from.
Here’s why Mitch McConnell and out-of-state groups are working overtime to prop up Senator Collins’ re-election bid:

“Susan Collins’ boss in Washington, who has systematically shut down legislation to address critical issues such as election security and climate change, promised she would be ‘well funded’ after toeing the party line - now we’re seeing that promise fulfilled,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “After decrying dark money and blaming it for her low approval ratings, Collins is now benefiting from it. If Collins was sincere in her objections to dark money groups, she should immediately denounce this new ad.”
