After securing support for a sham impeachment trial framework that doesn’t guarantee inclusion of witness testimony or other critical evidence from Senator Collins and other Republicans this week, Mitch McConnell met with Trump at the White House to coordinate on impeachment strategy.
Senator Collins likes to say she doesn’t approve of the partisan appearance of this impeachment process, but she is backing McConnell’s partisan cover-up. Now, Senator Collins has nothing to say while the leader of her caucus, who will act as lead juror in an impeachment trial, is taking his cues from the defendant.
“Mitch McConnell has dropped all pretense of impartiality and Senator Collins has done nothing but enable his sham trial rules that fail to secure any commitment to include key witness testimony or evidence ,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “Senator Collins must explain why she is refusing to demand a fair process like she did two decades ago, and why she thinks it’s appropriate for McConnell to coordinate the impeachment trial strategy she’s supporting behind closed doors with President Trump.”
