Earlier this week, Senator Susan Collins voted with Mitch McConnell ten times to block witnesses and evidence without a guarantee that they will be heard at all in the course of the trial. Yesterday, Collins told News Center Maine that she has “not really” seen anything in the impeachment trial so far that has stuck out to her.
Instead of living up to the standard she set in the last impeachment trial, when she was an outspoken advocate for more evidence and witness testimony, Senator Collins is backing McConnell’s cover up and ignoring Mainers’ demands for a fair trial.
Samantha York: Anything so far that’s jumped out to you?
Senator Collins: Not really.
“Senator Collins cannot honestly expect to have a fair trial when she’s voting to block important evidence and witness testimony,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “Mainers are demanding a fair trial, but Collins’ actions have shown that she’s more interested in political posturing than getting to the truth.”
