“We need a senator who will put the healthcare of Mainers first. That person is NOT Susan Collins.”

“How many Americans must die before Sen. Collins rebukes this President and repents for her part in propping him up?”

While Senator Susan Collins has attempted to publicly distance herself from her role in the Republican lawsuit to overturn the Affordable Care Act, it’s clear that Mainers aren’t buying it.

In the last week, letter writers to papers across the state have called out Senator Collins’ vote for the 2017 tax bill, which eliminated ACA’s individual mandate and “sparked” the lawsuit that now threatens to eliminate the health care law. Mainers also highlighted Collins’ many votes to repeal and undermine the ACA, and her support for legislation that has left many Mainers without paid sick leave.

In addition to pointing out Senator Collins’ votes against health care, Mainers continued to criticize her failure to hold Trump accountable for his disastrous handling of the coronavirus crisis that has left our communities at greater risk.

Portland Press Herald: Catherine Crute: Mainers’ healthcare not top priority for Collins

Susan Collins has, once again, shown her disdain for Mainers by voting for the 2017 tax cut which eliminated the mandate requiring people to buy health insurance. Because of this, the entire Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is being challenged in court. If the law fails, we go back in time to when there were no protections for pre-existing conditions. We need a senator who will put the healthcare of Mainers first. That person is NOT Susan Collins.

The Free Press: Jody Telfair-Richards: False Impression

Collins was also one of the deciding votes on the GOP tax bill, which eliminated the Healthcare mandate, a fundamental part of the very health care legislation she has taken credit for protecting. Through repealing the mandate, she and her Republican colleagues laid the groundwork for a lawsuit filed in Texas, now in front of the Supreme Court, that threatens to overturn the entire ACA. [...] If you want a senator whose values and votes are clear and consistent, and who will listen to your views as a constituent, do not vote for Susan Collins in November. And if you are concerned about affordable health care for yourself and your family, do not vote for Susan Collins in November.

Bangor Daily News: Gerry Greenberg: Democrats and health care

Sen. Susan Collins has voted against the Affordable Care Act multiple times and supported a bill that left many Maine workers at large companies without paid sick leave. In Maine, we have benefited from the bold leadership of Gov. Janet Mills, a Democrat, who expanded Medicaid as one of the first acts of her tenure. She is supportive of improving health care, as are other leading Democrats like Senate President Troy Jackson and Speaker Sara Gideon. This November, pay attention to where candidates stand on health care, and vote for Democrats.

Mount Desert Islander: Heather Peterson: Trading good sense for the spoils of party loyalty

As of today, April 24, more than 50,000 people in the United States have died from COVID-19. Sen. Collins’ reasoning for not voting for Mr. Trump in 2016 seems prescient. But her words and actions since he’s been in office tell a different story—the story of an elected representative who traded good sense for the spoils of party loyalty. How many Americans must die before Sen. Collins rebukes this President and repents for her part in propping him up?

Bangor Daily News: Nathan Oliver: My experience as a business owner

The Paycheck Protection Program has been hailed as a success by Sen. Susan Collins, and I feel it has been crammed down our throats by some as the only apparent solution to this economic disaster. This slapped-together measure is like putting a bandaid on a missing limb. [...] How could Collins spend time on a measure that could have helped Mainers only to produce this malformed nonsense? How can we trust that she will not do it again?
