While Senator Susan Collins’ campaign ads tout her as a bipartisan leader, a closer look at her record reveals that she voted with Donald Trump more than any other president during her tenure in the Senate, including George W. Bush.
According to CQ, Collins voted with Trump 94% of the time, and a CNN analysis found that in 2017, Collins was a more reliable vote for Republicans than any other year up to that point in her career. In 2017 and 2018, she voted to confirm every single one of Trump’s judicial nominees, even those rated as “not qualified” by the American Bar Association.
It’s no wonder that Trump has said he’s 100% behind Collins’ reelection, and even deployed his own campaign staff to get her on the ballot; he knows she’s a reliable vote for his right wing judicial nominees and tax breaks for corporate special interests.
“Senator Collins may have been bipartisan at one point, but her record of siding with Trump over Maine has shown us that she’s no longer willing to stand up to her party when it counts,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “We deserve a Senator who does what’s best for Mainers, not just what’s best for Trump.”
