As Senator Susan Collins attempts to publicly distance herself from Trump’s decision to use tear gas on peaceful protesters so he could get a photo op, it’s clear that she’d like Maine people to forget about her record of siding with Trump for the last three and a half years.
According to CQ, Collins voted with Trump 94% of the time. In the impeachment trial earlier this year, Collins voted to acquit the President after she repeatedly opposed the inclusion of key evidence and witness testimony. Collins claimed that Trump had learned a “pretty big lesson” from the impeachment trial, but it’s clear the only lesson he learned was that Senator Collins would let him get away with anything.
“Senator Collins has refused to hold this divisive and dangerous President accountable at every opportunity,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “Collins’ words ring hollow as long as she continues to refuse to be honest with Mainers about whether she’s supporting Trump’s reelection while Trump supports her campaign ‘100%.’”
