Senator Susan Collins has been working overtime to try to erase her history of voting for Trump’s extreme judicial nominees, but her record is clear: Collins votes for Trump nominees when it matters most.
In 2017 and 2018, when Republicans held a slim majority in the Senate, Collins voted to confirm every single one of Trump’s judicial nominees, including casting deciding votes to confirm a number of controversial nominees.
Now, with her popularity tanking and a number of high profile court cases on the horizon, Collins is desperately hoping that she can make Mainers forget that she’s responsible for packing our federal courts with extreme Trump nominees. She’s returned to her trusted strategy of getting a hall pass from Mitch McConnell to vote against the party line, but only after it’s clear that her vote won’t matter.
“Susan Collins has been instrumental in Trump and McConnell’s plan to pack our courts with judges who hold dangerous views on reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ equality, and the Affordable Care Act,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “Mainers are paying attention and Collins’ craven attempt to cover up the truth about her record won’t be enough to save her in November.”
