1820 PAC just launched another $1 million worth of ads on Maine’s airwaves to continue their effort to prop up Senator Susan Collins’ flailing campaign. The Super PAC with deep ties to Wall Street is flooding Maine’s airwaves to attack Sara Gideon in an attempt to paper over Collins’ own record of selling out Maine families to the highest bidder.
The corporate special interests behind 1820 PAC, including one of Washington's most influential interest groups and private equity billionaire Steven Schwarzman, were among the biggest beneficiaries of the GOP tax giveaway that Senator Collins supported in 2017. That tax bill allowed corporations and the wealthy to reap billions in tax breaks--but increased the burden on ordinary Mainers, paved the way for a Republican lawsuit to eliminate the Affordable Care Act, and put Social Security and Medicare at risk by adding nearly $2 trillion to the national debt.
“Mainers know that Senator Collins sold us out when she voted for the tax bill that gave billions to corporate special interests and put our health care at risk,” said Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Lisa Roberts. “Voters are ready to hold Collins accountable for her failure to put Maine first--and no amount of money from her corporate backers in Washington will change that.”
