Last week at a private fundraiser, Senator Susan Collins continued her 632 day streak of refusing to tell Mainers if she’ll vote for Donald Trump, but she did take the time to criticize Joe Biden, telling a room full of GOP donors that he’s gotten more liberal, according to the Bangor Daily News.
For months, Collins has refused to publicly weigh in on the presidential election, and previously stated that she wouldn’t campaign against Biden. But behind closed doors, when she’s surrounded by Republican insiders, Collins didn’t hesitate to make her disdain for the Democratic nominee clear.
Of course, Trump hasn’t hesitated to express his support for Senator Collins and has said he’s 100% behind her campaign. That's because Collins has been a critical vote for his agenda, from supporting a tax giveaway to corporations and the wealthy to voting to confirm every single one of his judicial nominees in 2017 and 2018.
“This is classic Senator Collins: saying one thing to Mainers and another behind closed doors with her donors,” said Maine Democratic Party spokesperson Holly Burke. “The idea that she thinks she can conceal her true position after she voted with Trump 94% of the time is ridiculous. It’s time for Senator Collins to tell us the truth about her support for the president.”
