Assistant Majority Leader Rachel Talbot Ross (D-Portland), who attended two days of Jackson’s confirmation hearings, issued a statement highlighting the judge’s experience and insight from a long career in the U.S. judicial system:
“From education and housing to domestic violence and health care, the Supreme Court makes decisions that affect all of us, but historically, the court’s decisions have disproportionately affected those in marginalized communities. With Judge Jackson’s experience working as a public defender, a district judge, on the Court of Appeals and on the Sentencing Commission, she has the insight and background necessary to administer justice equally to all people in the United States.”
Maine Democratic Party Chair, Drew Gattine issued the following statement after Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson was confirmed by a bipartisan U.S. Senate vote to the Supreme Court:
“Judge Jackson will be a historic member of the Supreme Court. Today’s bipartisan Senate vote not only adds a brilliant legal mind with the utmost character, integrity, and understanding of the law to our nation’s highest court, but will also make the Supreme Court better reflect the diversity of our nation.”
