In case you missed it, the Republican National Committee (RNC) yesterday touted Maine’s strong economic recovery from the pandemic under Governor Janet Mills, highlighting in a tweet that Maine is in the top fifteen states in the country in terms of jobs recovered. The RNC noted that Maine has recovered 98.5 percent of jobs, making Maine the 14th best state in the nation for job recovery.

The RNC also praised Maine’s COVID response in another tweet, pointing out that Maine is in the top ten of states (and the only Democratic-led state) in responding to the pandemic, according to a study written by conservative economists, which the Bangor Daily News also reported last week.

The recognition by the Republican National Committee comes just days after Maine announced that its unemployment rate has fallen to 3.6 percent, the lowest in two years. Maine’s unemployment rate is on par with the U.S. average, and below the average in New England..

According to Maine’s Department of Economic and Community Development, Maine’s GDP – a measure of economic growth – has also grown the 11th fastest in the country over the past three years under Governor Mills while Maine was ranked in the bottom for GDP growth during the previous decade under LePage.

Maine’s strong economic recovery is happening while Governor Janet Mills is on track to deliver one of the strongest measures in the country to help Maine people deal with inflation.

“Maine’s economic growth and economic recovery under Governor Mills are some of the best in the nation – and even Republicans are recognizing it,” said Drew Gattine, Chair of the Maine Democratic Party. “And while Maine’s economy continues to make a comeback, Governor Mills is now set to deliver one of the most aggressive inflation relief measures in the country to Maine people. That’s the leadership Maine people deserve.”
