In a Fox News interview yesterday, Paul LePage reverted to his old self—lying about his own record, smearing Governor Mills, and mocking supporters of abortion and LGBTQ+ rights. In response, Maine Democrats released the following statements:
“I've had the good fortune to work with Governor Mills on a number of projects to improve the lives of rural Mainers across the state,” said Rep. Danny Martin (D-Sinclair). “From expanding broadband access to funding rural hospitals and supporting rural small businesses, my House colleagues and I have collaborated with her administration to deliver a number of big wins for Maine’s most rural zip codes. When LePage was governor, I watched as those same areas suffered due to his failed leadership.”
“Let’s be clear—abortion is a key issue that affects voters across all corners of our state. We are terrified that Paul LePage and his anti-abortion friends in the Maine GOP are going to strip away our reproductive freedom now that Roe v. Wade has been overturned,” said Senator Mattie Daughtry (D-Cumberland). “Governor Mills has an impressive record to run on, and protecting Mainers’ abortion rights is a key part of it. With abortion rights on the ballot like never before, voters deserve to know where the candidates stand.”
“These comments are just the latest example of Paul LePage mocking LGBTQ+ rights, and are proof that he will target our community if he’s re-elected,” said Speaker Ryan Fecteau, (D-Biddeford). “LGBTQ+ Mainers already lived through eight scary years with Paul LePage in charge where our rights and safety were at risk, and it’s clear he hasn’t changed at all. With a champion for our community like Janet Mills in the Blaine House, we cannot afford to go back.”
