In a new video released today, Maine Democrats point out that we’ve heard the type of deflections on abortion rights Paul LePage is making before—namely, from the Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. During their confirmation hearings, Supreme Court Justices Kavanaugh, Alito, Coney Barrett, and Gorsuch assured the public that they would respect precedent on Roe, yet all of them proceeded to join the majority ending the constitutional right to an abortion. Now Paul LePage is attempting a similar gambit—claiming he has no plans to disrupt the legal status quo in Maine despite his long record of opposing abortion rights.
