Paul LePage can’t seem to stop fighting with people. After a bad last week where LePage repeatedly attacked Mainers, LePage is now taking to social media to argue with even more folks.
In a now-deleted comment on Facebook, LePage responded to a complaint about his cuts to mental health services and his past racially charged language by saying: “Maybe do a bit of research before you post talking points.”
LePage’s latest spat comes one week after he accused the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine of corruption – a charge that has been debunked – and then fought with Maine farmers during a forum, criticizing them for not being productive enough.
It’s no wonder the Press Herald Editorial Board recently said, “if you’ve forgotten how often his antics, anger and often fact-free approach to governing got in the way of helping people, this past week offered not-so-gentle reminders.”
“Paul LePage knows no bounds. He accuses the Sportsman’s Alliance of corruption, tells farmers they’re not good enough, and now attacks a voter on social media for highlighting his record of slashing funding for mental health services,” said Misha Linnehan, spokesperson for the Maine Democratic Party. “Maine people deserve a governor who treats them with dignity and respect and who works hard to solve problems. It’s clear that Paul LePage is still the same person who is more focused on fighting against people than fighting for them.”
While LePage accused the person of lying in response, the truth is that, as governor, LePage did, in fact, cut eligibility for mental health care services and refused federal funds to help young Mainers with mental illness. He also frequently attacked and discriminated against people of color, at one point saying “you shoot at the enemy…and the enemy right now…are people of color or people of Hispanic origin.”
