Augusta, ME – Last week, in the midst of the war with Iran that Susan Collins voted five times to extend, the cost of heating oil hit a record high of $6.02 per gallon. After Collins’ votes against ending Trump’s war with Iran, the costs of gas, diesel, and heating oil have all skyrocketed.

Maine Democratic Party spokesperson Misha Linnehan released the following statement:

“The risks to our troops and our families were clear the moment that President Trump started this reckless war with Iran – yet Susan Collins voted five times against resolutions that could have stopped it. Now, as the weather gets colder, Maine families are paying more than ever before to heat their homes, and there’s no end to the war in sight.”

Earlier this month, reports surfaced that not only did Collins vote five times against ending the war in Iran, but her husband owns up to $100,000 worth of stock in defense contractors profiting off of the war. The news came after Collins’ husband was found to own up to $115,000 in oil and gas companies whose stocks had increased after the war began. A study in August found that Maine families have paid $600 more in additional gas costs.
