At Port of Portland, Maine Democrats Blast Collins For Iran War Votes That Caused Heating Oil Crisis

South Portland, ME – As Mainers face heating oil prices that are up more than 80% compared to last year, Maine Democrats gathered at the Port of Portland to call out Susan Collins for causing the heating oil crisis by voting five times to extend Trump’s war in Iran. Speakers also blasted Collins for profiting off of oil stocks that have surged during the war and having voted with Trump 96% of the time on his agenda that has raised costs for Mainers.

“It is painful enough to stomach just how many families across our state are about to be stretched to their breaking point by the outrageous cost of heating our homes,” said Senator Ann Carney (D-Cumberland). “Yet that pain is compounded by the fact that our senior Senator, Susan Collins, voted not once, not twice, but five times to extend the war that is spiking these prices, while doing nothing to keep us safer.”

“Back when it mattered most, Senator Collins did nothing to stop President Trump from starting the war of choice with Iran,” said Representative Kilton Webb (D-Durham). “Collins’ lack of action before the start of the war and in the early days has led to a more expensive Maine.”

“Here in Maine, we are preparing for the most expensive winter of many of our lives, all because Susan Collins voted with Donald Trump, the oil companies lining her pockets, and the defense contractors powering her campaign,” said retired labor leader Doris Poland. “We deserve a Senator who fights for what we need – not one who will just pretend to be on our side after it’s far too late.”
