Bruised, Battered, and Broke: How Bobby Charles Enters the First Debate

Augusta, Maine — Bobby Charles has had yet another rough week and now he’s heading into tonight’s first gubernatorial general election debate of the cycle. It’s hard to see how things could get worse for the candidate whose own sister isn’t even supporting him, but a quick check of the news this week shows that it’s possible:

  • First the Washington Post reported on him scrubbing his website of pro-Trump and MAGA content after the Republican primary – a desperate move that doesn’t erase his MAGA track record.

  • Then the Maine Democratic Party filed a formal ethics complaint with the Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices over Charles’ multiple campaign finance violations.

  • Let’s not forget the new AARP polling shows Charles down by 13 points — in line with every single public poll about this race.

Statement from Maine Democratic Party Spokesperson Lauryn Fanguen:

“Someone check in on Lobby Bobby because he’s seemingly having a full-on meltdown online over his bleak campaign. Bobby Charles is spiraling and we’ll see that unhinged, desperate energy on the debate stage tonight.”
