Collins Votes to Confirm Yet Another Dangerous Trump Nominee

Augusta, ME – Today, Susan Collins voted to confirm Erica Schwartz, Trump’s choice to lead the Centers for Disease Control. Schwartz has previously come under fire for failing to criticize HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s anti-vaccination positions, yet Collins voted to put her in charge of the nation’s most important public health agency.

Misha Linnehan, spokesperson for the Maine Democratic Party, released the following statement:

“Yet again, Susan Collins has gone along with Donald Trump, voting to put yet another dangerous nominee in a position where she can undermine American public health. President Trump has set out to fill his Administration with right-wing extremists who are more loyal to him than they are to the American people, and Collins has voted with him 96% of the time.”

Collins has supported the vast majority of Trump’s nominees, including those who have undermined public health, refused to acknowledge the reality of the 2020 election, and numerous anti-choice federal judges – including Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch, who helped overturn Roe v. Wade.
