Augusta, Maine — Republican gubernatorial candidate Bobby Charles has repeatedly said he wants to cut the state budget by $4 billion – a policy even his fellow Republicans said is a reckless plan that would tank the state economy.
Cutting the state budget that significantly would require cuts to programs Mainers rely on like MaineCare, education, infrastructure, law enforcement and more.

Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Devon Murphy-Anderson:
“Bobby Charles’ $4 billion budget fantasy doesn’t add up, and Mainers deserve to know what he’s actually planning to cut. Which MaineCare services would he eliminate? Which schools would lose funding? Which roads and infrastructure projects would he abandon? Charles owes Mainers a real plan, not some fantasy math.”
